Cookbook | Recipes | Ingredients | Equipment | Techniques | Cookbook Disambiguation Pages | Recipes Bánh chưng (literally "steamed cake") is a traditional Vietnamese dish made from glutinous rice, mung beans and pork, all wrapped in lá dong (Stachyphrynium placentarium) and tied tightly with strings. It is traditionally eaten during Lunar New Year (Tết). Bánh chưng is often eaten with pickled onions (dưa hành), pickled vegetables in fish sauce (dưa món), or dipped in sugar for a sweet treat. It can also be sliced, pan fried until golden, and served with sugar or sweet chili sauce.
